Every visitor to the French Riviera will remember it forever. This place will enrich their soul and add to the understanding of beauty. The southern sun will make their eyes sharp and shiny. Wherever they go, the beauty of the Côte d’Azur will stay with them.

Witnesses to this were a group of talented French artists headed by Matisse who visited the South Coast. Since then there has always been sunshine in these old masters’ paintings. Even when they paint the cold landscapes of northern France, there are coastline colors in them. Lebasque, Bonnard, and of course Renoir, are the great artists of the Côte d’Azur. Le Cannet (a suburb of Cannes) was where they lived and worked, and thanks to them the world learned of impressionist art and the beauty of Riviera landscapes. They are unthinkable apart: how else can light tricks on seawater, the play of southern midday colors, idle luxury of leisure and multicolored gardens be conveyed?
All these exist not only in paintings of the great impressionist artists, but are also contained in the small town of Le Cannet. Stair streets, shady squares, ancient houses, a chapel no doubt painted by one of the brilliant artists, the nearby sea, wine, fruit and flowers, amiable inhabitants – Le Cannet has kept all the lively charm of Provence since ancient times. The city treasures its artistic heritage as well: it is the home of the Bonnard Museum (for whom Le Cannet was a genuine source of inspiration, and he bought a house here), chapels, churches, towers and fragments of an ancient Roman road.

Le Cannet also made a literary contribution to human history. The hot southern sun burned in the Gypsy heart of Carmen, whose story was presented to the world by Prosper Mérimée, who lived in Le Cannet. The great Sarah Bernhardt also played passionate, magnificent roles in plays written specially for her by Sardou, a native of this region.
It must be the sea and the sun of the Riviera that inspired French composer and performer Richard Galliano, who lived in Le Cannet, to create a new music style.
Le Cannet has been called “the French Madeira”. Seven hills covered with pines, orange trees, eucalyptus, olive trees and mimosa circle Le Cannet like a picturesque amphitheater. This creates the unique microclimate of Le Cannet – here there is always low humidity even in winter and plenty of air to breathe. Even back in the 19th century this feature of Le Cannet attracted numerous holiday makers.

There is a district of villas and private housing in the hills, which are a continuation of luxurious Cannes. The old town offers perfect hiking and sightseeing. Rocheville is “a new town”, the center of entertainment and business.
There are lots of colors here. Even the wine in Le Cannet is orange – it is made of an indigenous variety of oranges. Green olives growing on the hills are traditionally used as appetizers. Red, yellow, violet and blue flowers are scattered on the hills and grow in flowerbeds and lawns. The azure sea sparkles in the sun, which shines here almost all year round.
Le Cannet, a city that has inspired artists and writers, can itself be called a work of art. Here there are outstanding facilities for leisure, business, creative work, sports and travel… The only thing this generous land will not do is leave you unaffected.
