Ayia Napa looks like the youngest Cypriot city. This is not at all because its history is shorter than the history of its neighbors: it is an ancient city with its heart-stirring and beautiful history (“Ayia Napa” means “Sacred Forest”, the place where an ordinary hunter found a miraculous icon of God’s Mother).

Ayia Napa is young, because it is always full of joy, songs and dances; it’s carefree. Its climate is cool, mild, refined by the sea and not humid even in winter. An abundance of beaches adds to this picture; every of them has been awarded the European Blue Flag for compliance with standards of cleanliness and service; a huge array of entertainments, from diving in search of sunken amphoras, yachting, water skiing to a magnificent theme water park, tame dolphin show and entertainment centers for children and grownups.
However, Ayia Napa finally “recovered its youth” about 10 years ago, when it drew the attention of British DJs for the first time. The English opened the Kool Club in the city, and since then Ayia Napa has impetuously taken off as the capital of clubbers from all over the world. This fame was nailed down by a BBC film about the club life of Ayia Napa. But don’t think that the clubbers’ capital is a pandemonium of teenagers and nothing more! Club life by European standards is a skilfully organized and stylish trend of contemporary culture, which includes a lot of arts, from dress codes to special cocktail recipes. By the way, where else but in Ayia Napa, can you meet idols of youth from all over the world? DJ Nick Power, DJ Tiesto, Sander Kleinenberg, Ferry Corsten and other stars love relaxing on the golden beaches and partying in the blazing nightclubs.
Ayia Napa is also famous for its Festival. All visitors to this friendly and hospitable city are invited to the celebration, where they can learn about the past and present of the Cypriots, try their amazing cuisine and world-renowned wine and buy crafts.
They say that sometimes a sea monster rises to the surface from the sea bottom near Ayia Napa, which looks something like a dragon with a pig’s head. Fishermen call it their friend. This descendant of extinct dinosaurs must be envious of the joy of ever-young and ever-happy Ayia Napa.
